We made a hard decision today to pull our campaign for $250k with the Pepsi Refresh Everything Project and throw our support behind our partners at the Puyallup Valley Food Bank. They are raising funds to purchase a needed building, and are providing a very valuable service to the clients we serve, as well as families and individuals throughout the region.
Here’s what they say on their Refresh Everything project page:
We risk major service disruption or closure past December of 2010. It is paramount that we purchase our own building. Our lease payment is detrimental to our existence. The purchase of our own building will enable us to reduce our operating costs from 12% to 8% which represents a 33% reduction.
The goal for 2010 is to eliminate our largest expense which is rent. By eliminating the rental expense, it will afford us the opportunity to continue to serve the growing needs of our community on a consistent basis. We are currently at 30% of our goal of raising $500,000 but still need to raise an additional $350,000. We’ve determined that we will be relocating to a smaller, more affordable building. We are excited that the search has already begun and feel we are in a very strong position, given the current economic and real estate environment, to secure a favorable price on a building that will meet our ongoing needs.
Please vote today for the Puyallup Food Bank through the end of October, by texting 100859 to Pepsi (73774), and going to http://www.refresheverything.com/keepthepuyallupfoodbankopen. You can vote daily.
Helping Hand House will be applying again within the next several months for our Community Garage Partnership, possibly at a lower level. Please stay tuned, and thank you for your support for our mission of preventing and ending family homelessness in Pierce County – we certainly can’t do it alone.
Thanks so much!
